So far in this series, I talked about the health conditions I have been dealing with for the past fifteen years (read Part 1 here), and one of the factors that have most likely contributed to it (read Part 2 here). And though I haven’t spelled out all of the dangers of wheat, I thought it best to move on to the next topic and save some information for a follow-up blog. That brings me to the next health concern – Meat.
Again, this is a HUGE part of what makes up the Western Diet, and our consumption of meat has been growing every year. Interestingly, so has heart disease, obesity, stroke and cancer-related illnesses. But, meat is supposed to be good for you, right? Sure – if you believe the commercials on TV, that is.
And who puts those commercials together? Organizations like the National Cattleman’s Beef Association, the National Chicken Council, the National Pork Producers Council, groups like that. What’s their job? Getting Americans to eat more of their product. There may be a bit of a bias there.
And, yes, meat does provide a long list of nutrients that our bodies need, and some of those nutrients do match more closely to the proteins in our system. But, what you might not know is that amino acids in animal proteins have a higher concentration of sulfur. Why is that bad? Well, simply put, it can lead to cancer. Here’s how.
Your body is constantly trying to balance your pH levels between acidic and alkaline. When you digest animal proteins, the sulfur in the amino acids creates acid-generating metabolites, which lower your pH level. This creates a situation where your body needs to borrow buffers (such as calcium) to offset the negative effects. Now, if you weren’t aware, the scientist who discovered the existence of cancer cells also discovered the cure. As long as the body is maintained in an alkaline state, cancer cells don't grow!
As I mentioned earlier, lowering your pH level is just one negative effect. Another is that animal proteins, and most specifically milk proteins, contain a substance known as casein. And casein has been found to be the chemical carcinogen most related to cancer cell growth. When you couple a pH level that leans towards the acidic side with a higher level of chemical carcinogens in your bloodstream, the result, not surprisingly, is an increase in the potential for cancerous growth. And casein isn’t the only concern.
In the blog I posted on the dangers of wheat, and most specifically GMO wheat, I failed to mention one thing: wheat isn’t the only product that has been genetically modified. The other two big ones are corn and soy. And guess what almost ALL animal feeds are made from? Wheat (or wheat byproducts), corn, and soy. They also feed them Skittles. Yeah – that’s right. Cows are 'tasting the rainbow'.
Why? Because they are a cheap source of carbohydrates, and carbs are what makes cows nice and fat. Don’t believe me? Look it up on Snopes. So, not only are the cows, that we eventually turn into hamburger, eating feed that is laced with carcinogens from being soaked in RoundUp, but they are also obese, diabetic cows from all the sugar! Remember the adage that ‘You are what you eat?” Any wonder why obesity and diabetes are on the rise?
